Turning Pain Into Poetry
I turn my depression into poems that a lot of people can relate to. I write to connect with those who are going through tough times or have faced a lot in their lives, hoping my words can offer some comfort or understanding. Writing has honestly changed my life—it’s helped me cope and find a way to express what’s hard to say out loud. My goal is to make a difference, even if it’s just a small one, by reaching the minds and hearts of people who need it most. I hope my poems can bring a little light to anyone who reads them and remind them they’re not alone.

"Key-Kee!" Nadine echoed, her tiny hands gripping the floor as she crawled forward, her voice bubbling with excitement. "No, it is Kit-Ty," Harold corrected, shaking his head. "She says it wrong. She is still a baby," Elise said gently. "Meow, meow… meowww," Nadine mimicked the family cat, her tiny frame wiggling like a kitten in play. Eli dropped to his hands and knees beside her. "Meowww!" he exaggerated, scrunching his nose and wiggling his fingers like whiskers. "Ugh, this is ridiculous," Harold groaned. As Nadine moved, the soft fur of her costume brushed against her arms, keeping her warm against the cool fall air. She did not know it yet, but this was something she would carry forever. Her orange-striped costume tail flicked behind her. It was her first Halloween, the night she would start transforming into something more. Later, as shadows stretched across the walls, she whispered her first sign of something greater. "Here, Key-Kee."

There’s no right or wrong way to live. No one knows for sure which way is crooked. Until it is that you’ve found faith or dove into a clingy space of motherhood that the owner of that blood flow unbinds the will of man and taint the waters of humanity. To be or to not to be a woman?
Where are my African roots?
Deciding between a wide-tooth comb and whether or not Vaseline has overpowered my use of cocoa butter is quite the investigation. If only I were to say a fairer skinned person had nothing to do with the blackest of cultures, then I might want to pinch myself because even in that the doves would cry. And on that note, we find ourselves learning to do more integrating of multiple worlds where there are no grey areas.
