Hawthorn, a vibrant yet standoffish young woman has met life every way she could. Having traveled across the country more times than she can count, there’s nothing that brings Hawthorn down or stands in her way. Whether she’s facing rabid wolves, unhinged thieves, Elves anxious to mate, or an Orc preparing for battle, Hawthorn has seen it all and survived it too. Now it’s time for her to take on another challenge, and she’s up for the battle. Kahwen is strong, and level headed but stubborn as a bull. A high warrior of her horde, Kahwen is familiar with both battle and pain, but the heady female Orc is hardly familiar with failure, after all, failure wasn’t an option, no matter the challenge.

Poem by me referencing the Greek God Prometheus whom sacrificed himself to provide humans with the gift of fire. He was punished for his kindness. Although the poem more so references his torture of his liver being eaten by an eagle daily, it is a moment to appreciate the sacrifices as such a powerful thing. This poem takes an understanding to the death of our hope despite vital efforts and endless kindness. As always, take your own interpretation of this poem as the art itself.

I remember the night air being particularly dry as I made my way back from the river. There was always this faint metallic taste whenever I breathed on the human side, like iron dust floating on the wind. It reminded me of the enormous Iron walls that stood as a barrier between my world and hers. They blazed downward, scanning the barren stretch of rocky ground like giant, unblinking eyes. My boots crunched against the gravel despite my efforts to stay quiet. Above me, the wall’s dark metal surface gleamed under the cold moonlight. It rose so high it seemed to blend into the night sky. Built decades, maybe even centuries ago, it was a paradox of old-world engineering and futuristic reinforcement. Steam vents hissed from hidden pipes while sleek sensor panels pulsed with tiny red lights. Whenever a beam of light passed overhead, I froze, my heart hammering in my chest.
